Miriam’s Blog

Hi everyone,

Mmh, the first blog, what can I tell you?? Well, the best thing is probably to start with myself. My name is Miriam and I am the intern or also called Junior Event Manager (which I personally prefer a lot). I am (only in football terms) from the enemy country Germany. So please forgive me any spelling or grammar mistakes.

I started my internship with TCP at the beginning of August this year. The internship is part of my university course which I am doing in Germany. This means, I will go back to good old Germany at the end of January 2007 to finish my course. Sad, but true.

I am the newest member of the team, which doesn’t mean I haven’t got any experience in events.

I worked as an event manager in Hamburg for 3 years, organising concerts. I did quite a variety of concerts, starting from very big rock concerts like ‘The Rolling Stones’ or the boss ‘Bruce Springsteen’ with an audience of  50.000 people, over pop boy group concerts like ‘Westlife’ with lots of ambulances for the girls, to more classical concerts like the opera AIDA.

My first event with the TCP was a military event in Italy with my colleague Sarah. I loved it!! I was responsible for all the speakers and exhibitors. So I had lots of correspondence via email or telephone, making sure everyone received the important information or chasing people to send me important information.

In Italy it was really nice meeting everyone at the end, after communicating for quite a while. The venue was quite special as well. While the exhibition was based in a military base, the conference took part in a cathedral. WOW!!!

It was not always easy to communicate with the Italians, because of language difficulties and working ethic. I, as a German, like everything on time, immediately and very clear, while Italians are a lot more relaxed. Which is the better way of working? I don’t know. But at the end I can say: I love Italians. They are wonderful!!

After that event, I helped my other colleague Jacqui with the CODE events. Very interesting as well, but totally different. While the event in Italy was all about nuclear, chemical, atomic and biological weapons, this event was about Botox injections. Not really my cup of tea, though I am only 25, but interesting for others.

At the moment I am working with Sarah and Phil on the Creative Partnerships Event in Manchester, which will take place next week. Because that is almost tomorrow, I better stop talking about me and start working again.

Will tell you more soon.

Miriam
