The first phase of construction on the floating eco event space at Brockholes, Preston has been completed.

The 150 capacity venue will be the first of its kind in the UK and will form part of a brand new 106 hectare nature reserve due to open in Spring 2011.

It will be carbon neutral in its build and its operation thanks to initiatives such as low energy cooking, passive ventilation systems and solar powered water pumps.

Bookings are now being taken for hard hat tours, which will take place from January 2011.

The project is funded by £8.6m investment from the Northwest Regional Development Agency under the Forestry Commission led regeneration programme ‘Newlands’.
